Sunshine Sugars achievements in energy efficiency were rewarded when they won the top prize in the 2013 Food and Beverage section of the Pace Zenith Awards. Nominations were received from across Australia in all industry sectors.
The award was based on the installation of a Siemens 184KW AC Motor Drive combination replacing the drive system on the centrifugal at Harwood. The installation has delivered significant energy savings of over 40 percent in energy consumption. The installation despite having a smaller sized motor and drive has not lost any power, has achieved harmonics of less than 1 percent, and has significantly reduced energy costs with a reduction from 1.7 down to 1.0 kWh/tonne of massecuite.
CEO of Sunshine Sugar, Chris Connors, said that the local business was proud of its continued success in delivering innovative solutions in energy efficiencies as part of its continuous improvement program across the whole business.
